It has grown into one of the largest eye care facilities in the world, recognized for its high-volume, high-quality clinical services. The organization is dedicated to compassionate, accessible, and affordable care, with a strong focus on preventing and treating avoidable blindness. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Certified Genetic Counselor role based in Coimbatore. The Certified Genetic Counselor will provide comprehensive genetic counseling to individuals and families with inherited or suspected genetic eye conditions, including obtaining detailed family and medical histories and assessing hereditary risk.
The role includes coordinating and explaining genetic testing options, obtaining informed consent, and communicating test results in a clear, empathetic manner. The counselor will collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to integrate genetic information into patient care plans. Daily
responsibilities also include maintaining accurate documentation, participating in multidisciplinary case discussions, contributing to patient and community education, and supporting relevant clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in genetic counseling and genetic testing, with the ability to interpret and communicate complex genetic information clearly and sensitively.
- Knowledge of medicine and ophthalmic genetics, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical teams in an eye care setting.
- Laboratory skills related to genetic testing workflows, sample handling, and coordination with diagnostic laboratories.
- Research skills, including literature review, data collection, and participation in clinical or translational research projects.
- Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling or a closely related field and relevant certification or eligibility as a Genetic Counselor.
- Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered and culturally sensitive approach.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple cases in a high-volume clinical environment.
